Best in Business Contest

The SABEW Best in Business (BIB) contest was started in 1995 to help set standards and recognize role models for outstanding business journalism. It is an annual contest that opens in December for entries published during that calendar year. Winning entries are announced each year in the spring.

To view all winners in a contest category, select the contest category. Each entry includes authors' names and entry title (when applicable for entry type), publication name, judges' comments, and links to winning entries (addition of links to winning entries is still in progress).

To find a specific entry you will need to know the contest category in which the entry was a winner.

  1. Check the SABEW News winners announcement for a list of winning publications with their winning categories. (Note: Participants could enter more than one contest category.)
  2. Select the link to the winner's contest category on the 2007 Best In Business Contest Winners page and scroll down to the type/size group for the entry.

2007 BIB Contest Division Descriptions and Rules

The 2007 BIB Contest offered four competition divisions subdivided into categories for publication format and circulation size.

  • General Excellence — honors outstanding business sections, business newspapers, business magazines and business Web sites.
  • News — honors the best individual stories or packages of stories published by the business news media. Categories include breaking news, enterprise reporting, columns, magazine cover story and project reporting.
  • Online — honors outstanding journalism on business Web sites or business pages of general news sites. Categories include general excellence, project, breaking news, magazine, audio/video report, blog and creative use of online.
  • Student — honors best business news stories published by a student in student or professional publications.
